§ From Francis Brooke

15 March 1803, Fredericksburg. Returns the enclosed commission [not found] because acceptance would render him ineligible for a state Senate seat for which he is again a candidate.

RC (DNA: RG 59, ML). 1 p. Brooke had been appointed as a commissioner of bankruptcy (see Jefferson’s list of appointments, n.d. [DNA: RG 59, LAR, 1801–9, filed under “Jefferson”]).
