26 November 1812, Utica, New York. Introduces Alexander Johnson,2 “a respectable young merchant of this place, who will spend a few days in Washington City, for the sake of amusement & information.”

1. Nathan Williams (1773–1835), a prominent Utica attorney and civic leader, was president of the village corporation and president of the Manhattan Bank. He also served as a Republican representative in the Ninth Congress between 1805 and 1807 (The Utica Directory for the Year 1817 [Utica, N.Y., 1817; Shaw and Shoemaker description begins R. R. Shaw and R. H. Shoemaker, comps., American Bibliography: A Preliminary Checklist for 1801–1819 (22 vols.; New York, 1958–66). description ends 39653], 18, 23).

2. Alexander B. Johnson was a director, secretary, and treasurer of the Utica Insurance Company (ibid., 10).
