7. The Gentlemen had informed Lee on July 9 that the examination of JW’s accounts had begun, and requested his objections by return post. Lee’s response of the following day was that he first needed a copy of that letter “by which you think yourselves authorized to make this application to Me,” and a copy of the accounts. APS.
