From George Washington to the United States Senate and House of Representatives, 21 April 1792

To the United States Senate and House of Representatives

United States [Philadelphia] April 21st 1792.

Gentlemen of the Senate, and of the House of Representatives,

I lay before you the Copy of a Letter1 which I have received from the Judges of the Circuit Court of the United States held for the Pennsylvania District, relatively to the “Act to provide for the settlement of the Claims of Widows and Orphans barred by the limitations heretofore established, and to regulate the claims to Invalid Pensions.”2

2. The House of Representatives read this message and its enclosure when they were received this day. The Senate did not receive them until 23 April, when “The Message and papers were read, and ordered to be put on file” (Annals of Congress description begins Joseph Gales, Sr., comp. The Debates and Proceedings in the Congress of the United States; with an Appendix, Containing Important State Papers and Public Documents, and All the Laws of a Public Nature. 42 vols. Washington, D.C., 1834–56. description ends , 2d Cong., 1st sess., 127–28, 572–73).
