AD, General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 230.

1In September 1765 Sarah Harle, probably the daughter of William Harle (d. 1750) of Fairfax County, went to work for GW at Mount Vernon and remained in his employ at the house for more than two years, until 23 May 1767 when he gave her an extra month’s salary. See General Ledger A description begins General Ledger A, 1750–1772. Library of Congress, George Washington Papers, Series 5, Financial Papers. description ends , folio 216.

2This may be the James Donaldson who was active in Fairfax County affairs until his death in 1770. He may be the same James Donaldson who enlisted in the Virginia Regiment from Stafford County in 1755 at the age of 28. GW indicates he paid in Maryland currency.

3For the reference to the building of GW’s schooner, see Cash Accounts, December 1765, n.6.
