From George Washington to Major General Nathanael Greene, 26 May 1780

To Major General Nathanael Greene

Hd Qrs [Morristown] 26th May 1780

Sir,

I wish you to write to Providence for a return of the number of Boats there, & their condition—also to direct that they may be put in order without loss of time.1 Doctor Craick who is going to that quarter will afford you an opportunity of writing2—You will likewise be pleased to give the same directions respecting those in Connecticut & Delaware Rivers.3 I am

GW wanted the information for a potential offensive against New York City in conjunction with the French expeditionary army (see GW to Udny Hay, 15 May, and n.2 to that document; see also GW to Hay, 17 May, and Henry Knox to GW, 23 May).
