From George Washington to Major General Israel Putnam, 25 June 1779

To Major General Israel Putnam

New Windsor June 25th 1779

Dr Sir,

I send you an extract from the General orders of this day; which you will be pleased to announce.1 The letter to the Board transmitted to General Greene will inform you of the subject of their meeting—After reading, you will forward it to General Greene.2 I am Your most Obedt servant.

Df, in Alexander Hamilton’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW. GW’s aide-de-camp Richard Kidder Meade wrote the dateline on the draft manuscript.

1The enclosure almost certainly was a copy of the first paragraph of the general orders for this date. That paragraph ordered a board of general officers, with Maj. Gen. Nathanael Greene as president, to sit on 26 June to consider accusations of parole violations by American officers.
