To Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Hamilton

Head Quarters Morris Town May 2d 1780

Dear sir

The inclosed Letter of the 1st of March I received sometime ago from Doctor Gordon1 which a variety of pressing business has prevented me from communicating to You before. I request your determination on the points contained in it, that I may transmit it to the Doctor.2 You will be pleased to return me his Letter with the Inclosure to which it refers. 1. GW is referring to a letter he received from William Gordon dated 29 Feb.–1 March, which enclosed correspondence between Gordon and Hamilton. In his letter to GW, Gordon charged Hamilton with impugning his “moral character,” which he considered “next to All; & like female honour must, be defended at all adventures.”
