Warrant to Colonel Clement Biddle

[Camp near Pottsgrove, Pa., 26 September 1777]

You are hereby authorized to impress all the Blankets, Shoes Stockings and other Articles of Clothing1 for the use of the Army, that can be spared by the Inhabitants in the Counties of Bucks Philada and Northampton, paying for the same at reasonable Rates, or give Certificates.2 Given at Camp near Potts Grove this 26th day of Septemr 1777.

Df, in Tench Tilghman’s writing, DLC:GW; Varick transcript, DLC:GW. GW signed a similar warrant in Tilghman’s writing on 27 Sept. authorizing William Henry of Lancaster, Pa., to impress blankets and clothing in Lancaster County (PHi:(PHi: Washington Manuscripts).
