ALS, PHi: Gilpin Papers.

1Four days later, on Wednesday, 24 Aug., GW again wrote Gilpin: “On Saturday, I informed you, that I could be ready to attend at the Great Falls at any hour tomorrow (thursday) that you & Colo. Fitzgerald would name, but your being then from home, & having heard nothing from you since, I am at a loss how to govern myself.

“It was my intention then, and is so still, if the meeting is to take place, to go to Mr Fairfax’s to Night, so that being convenient, I can be at the Falls at any hour that shall be named to morrow (ALS, MHi: Mrs. Grenville Temple Winthrop autograph collection, Winthrop family papers). GW did not go to the falls and next met with Gilpin and John Fitzgerald in Alexandria on 9 September.
