Your Letter to the Revd Mr Addison was sent to him immediately upon its getting to my hands—Inclos’d you will receive an answer to it.1 Being confind to Company till this moment, I mean for two or three days past, & the bearer obligd to depart (in order to meet us in time at my Brothers in Stafford) I have only time to request the favour of you, to permit Mastr Custis to meet us there also tomorrow (that is, Saturday) and if you think it will be of no great prejudice to him, to give him the further indulgence of accompanying us to Westmoreland where we shall stay (I expect) about 8 or 10 days2—Very respectfully I remain Revd Sir Yr Most Obedt Hble Servt

2. GW left Mount Vernon on 20 Aug. with Martha Washington and Martha Parke Custis. He spent the next two weeks visiting his brothers, first Samuel and then John Augustine, and fishing from his schooner in the bays and inlets of the lower Potomac. For a record of his movements from 20 Aug. until his return to Mount Vernon on 5 Sept., see , 2:87–88, 92. After joining his family, John Parke Custis became ill in Westmoreland County. He was sent back to Mount Vernon in early September instead of to Boucher’s school (see GW to Boucher, 4 Sept. 1768, and Cash Accounts, September 1768, n.2).
