He spent the next two weeks visiting his brothers, first Samuel and then John Augustine, and fishing from his schooner in the bays and inlets of the lower Potomac. For a record of his movements from 20 Aug. until his return to Mount Vernon on 5 Sept., see Diaries description begins Donald Jackson and Dorothy Twohig, eds. The Diaries of George Washington. 6 vols. Charlottesville, Va., 1976–79. description ends , 2:87–88, 92. After joining his family, John Parke Custis became ill in Westmoreland County. He was sent back to Mount Vernon in early September instead of to Boucher’s school (see GW to Boucher, 4 Sept. 1768, and Cash Accounts, September 1768, n.2).
