Newyork Sepr 10. 1792

Dear Sir

The Legislature of the State of Newyork at their last Sessions passed an Act Authorizing the acknowledgement of Deeds before any of the Judges of the supreme Court of the U.S.2 I shall therefore be obligd to You if You will execute the Deed for the House in Wall Street & forward it to Me as soon as it suits Your Conveniency.

If the payment of the first moiety at any time before the stipulated period, will be any accommodation to You, it will be ready whenever You please to direct the payment—on the delivery of the Deed, if You choose it, and the Bond for the Residue will be forwarded to You.

1. Verplanck was a prominent New York merchant. As this letter states, he had purchased H’s house at 58 Wall Street.

2. “An Act concerning conveyances by married women” provided in part “That all acknowledgments and proofs of deeds and conveyances of any lands tenements or hereditaments situated in this State taken or made before any judge of the supreme court of the United States shall be of like validity and force, as if the same was taken or made before a judge of the supreme court of this State” (Laws of the State of New York, III description begins Laws on the State of New York Passed at the Sessions of the Legislature Held in the Years 1789, 1790, 1791, 1792, 1793, 1794, 1795 and 1796, inclusive, Being the Twelfth, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth, Sixteenth, Seventeenth, Eighteenth and Nineteenth Sessions (Albany, 1887), III. description ends , 348).
