the inclosed order is for a ballance due for Brick work done last year includeing the Resst of Mrs Garners house—I should be glad to get a further sum before you go to poplar forest otherwise I shall be left destitue of funds to Carry on the work I have on hand.

On 16 July 1819 Perry acknowledged receipt of a “Dft of A S. Brockenbrough Proctor U. Va on Alex Garrett Esqr Bursar for fifteen hundred dollars on acct Work & materials in Pavilion No 4 [i.e., Pavilion VII] & the adjoining dormitories” (MS in ViU: PP; written on a small scrap in Brockenbrough’s hand, signed by Perry).
