J. Madison offers his friendly respects to Mr. Strong1 with thanks for the copy of his Speech on the Tariff Bill.2 Less can not be said of it than that it presents with advantage, the particular views taken of the subject by the Author.

1James Strong (1783–1847), a Connecticut-born graduate of the University of Vermont, settled in Hudson, New York, and served in the U.S. House of Representatives, 1819–21, and 1823–31.
