8. The first Sunday after Laurens arrived in the Paris area on the evening of March 14: London Courant, and Westminster Chronicle, March 30, 1781. Among the letters written after his arrival is a dinner invitation to “Mr. Franklin” for the following Tuesday, dated only “Friday Evening.” It probably was sent to WTF as Laurens generally addressed BF as “Doctor.” Two undated letters were written by William Jackson, Laurens’ secretary. One, dated “Monday noon,” enclosed, for BF’s approval, a letter to Gen. Knox. The other asked for the loan of BF’s carriage as Jackson could not hire a carriage in Passy and wished to put a packet of important letters in the post office himself.
