I drew on you about the 10th. or 11th. inst. in favor of William Wardlaw or order for 40. Dollars, of which this serves to advise you, if I did not write a letter of advice at the time. If I did, I omitted to keep a copy of it and it has escaped my memory. I am with esteem Dear Sir Your most obedt. servt

TJ’s draft in favor of Dr. William Wardlaw of Charlottesville is recorded in , 11 July 1795. There is no record in SJL of an earlier letter to Barnes on this subject. A letter from Barnes to TJ of 22 June 1795, recorded in SJL as received 30 June 1795, has not been found.
