Responding to Gerry’s 12 Nov. request “for the yeas & nays of my appointment,” TJ made this list of the votes in the Senate on 22 June 1797 when it consented to Adams’s nomination of Gerry as one of the three envoys extraordinary and ministers plenipotentiary to the French Republic (JEP, description begins Journal of the Executive Proceedings of the Senate of the United States … to the Termination of the Nineteenth Congress, Washington, D.C., 1828 description ends 1:245).
