In October 1802, James Monroe recommended jacob i. cohen as bankruptcy commissioner at Richmond. William vaughan of portland sought appointment as marshal for the district of Maine in 1793, but no solicitations or recommendations on his behalf in 1802 or 1803 have been found (Vol. 25:316–17n; Vol. 38:529–30).

worcester: Levi Lincoln wrote the three names listed here on a scrap of paper now found with other recommendations (MS in DNA: RG 59, LAR, 2:0415). All three named by Lincoln were appointed with commissions dated 16 June (list of commissions in Lb in DNA: RG 59, MPTPC).
