Dec. 14. 1793.

Th: Jefferson has the honor to inform the President that the Spanish papers are now all ready. he sends him a set for his examination & will send two others Monday morning. he also sends the draught of the message he would propose, with the blank filled up which had been left in it whenever the President is satisfied about it, either with or without amendments, Th: J. will have copies made out.1

The Algerine papers will not be ready till tomorrow when they shall be submitted to the examination of the President.2

1Jefferson sent a draft for GW’s first message to the United States Senate and House of Representatives of 16 Dec. (see Jefferson Papers description begins Julian P. Boyd et al., eds. The Papers of Thomas Jefferson. 41 vols. to date. Princeton, N.J., 1950–. description ends , 27:519–20). The day in the dateline is left blank on Jefferson’s draft. The “Spanish papers” were the enclosures with that message. The next Monday was 16 December.
