Th: Jefferson with his respects to the President submits to him another letter to mister Morris, on a subject just now put into his hands.1

1Jefferson’s second letter to Gouverneur Morris of 13 June asked Morris to inquire into an “unaccounted for” one million livres granted to the United States by France in 1776 (Jefferson Papers description begins Julian P. Boyd et al., eds. The Papers of Thomas Jefferson. 41 vols. to date. Princeton, N.J., 1950–. description ends , 26:277). The material just put into Jefferson’s hands was Alexander Hamilton’s letter to him of 10 June 1793 and its enclosures (ibid., 243–47; see also JPP description begins Dorothy Twohig, ed.
