Dear Sir

Just now returned from Bedford I find here your favor of Dec. 11. and without a moment’s loss of time I return you my renewed notes for the banks, and repeat the assurances of my great esteem & respect

On this date TJ recorded renewing the notes enclosed here, one for his standing loan from the Bank of Virginia for $2,000 and the other from the Richmond branch of the Second Bank of the United States for $3,000 (MB description begins James A. Bear Jr. and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, 1997, 2 vols., The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1340).
