Paris July 29. 1788.

Having received the inclosed letter1 from Julien Laurent claiming his wages as Volunteer on board the Bonhomme Richard, I have the honour of forwarding it to you, supposing it will of course be referred to the proper office to take order on. I have the honour to be with sentiments of the most perfect esteem and respect Sir Your most obedient & most humble servt.,

RC (DNA: PCC, No. 87, ii). PrC (DLC). Enclosure: According to entry in SJL Index, Laurent wrote TJ on 11 Mch. 1788, but his letter (here enclosed to Jay) has not been found.

1. A marginal note in a clerk’s hand contains the following: “Sent to the Board of Treasury 11th. June 1789.”
