From Thomas Jefferson to Andrew Ellicott, 14 February 1801

To Andrew Ellicott

Washington Feb. 14. 1801.

Dear Sir

I have to acknolege the reciept of your favors of Feb. 5. & 9. and to thank you for the pamphlet contained in the former one which was a desideratum to me. I will forward the diplomas to Chr. Livingston & mr Stewart. the latter is almost out of date. I am Dear Sir

Ellicott’s letter of 9 Feb. enclosed two diplomas for TJ to forward: “It being the practice of the American Philosophical Society, for that member, who nominates a person, and who is in consequence of that nomination elected a member, to furnish him with his diploma” (RC in DLC; at foot of text: “Thos. Jefferson Esqr. V.P. of the U.S and President of the Senate”; endorsed by TJ as received 11 Feb. 1801 and so recorded in SJL).
