I recieved yesterday your favor of the 24th. the notes [delivered by] mr Burwell to mr Ludlow belonged three of them to Dr. Currie, & the [rest to] himself. to wit

If Congress mean to adjourn at all (which I doubt) I shall stay here till they adjourn. if they do not after passing the land tax, I shall consider it as evidence they mean to make their sessions permanent, and shall then go home for the season. I am with great & sincere esteem Dr. Sir

RC (CtHi: Aaron Burr Papers); torn, with four missing words supplied in brackets from PrC; at foot of text: “Colo. Burr.” PrC (DLC); lacks postscript; endorsed by TJ in ink on verso. Enclosure not found; James Currie wrote TJ letters, now missing, of 11 Apr. received on 17 Apr. and 13 May received seven days later (see Currie to TJ, 11 Mch. 1798).
A letter from Lewis Burwell to TJ, written on 29 May and received from Richmond on 6 June 1798, is recorded in SJL but has not been found.
