The overtures for Reconciliation1 which had taken place before left us were terminated by two Letters of which the comb following are Copies—
here insert Mr Livingstons Letter of the 16th. Instant & mine in answer to it of the same Date2
It being proper that our Conduct should harmonize with Reconciliation, the sooner you make a Visit to Mr. Livingston the better- He wants to purposes to set out from here in a Day or two. H We hear with Concern that the [illegible] Scarlet Fever prevails greatly at NYork, & that many have fallen Victims to it An Reports of this kind are often beyond the Truth— if however they are is ^are^ well founded, I think it will be prudent for You to return t to Rye, or this Place untill you see remain at New York ^return to^ that Disease shall be at abatetes— any Dis new ^such a^ Disorder added to the one in your Breast might be place you in a Situation too critical to be unnecessarily risqued—
Your Mother remains much in the state ^an as when^ you left ^her^—3 we the weather since your Departure has been so unfavorable that we are not without anxiety about You— I am Dr Peter your affte Father
