From John Jay to Francis Dana, 16 February 1793
To Francis Dana
Philada. 16 Feb. 1793
Sir
I have recd. the Letter which you did me the Honor to write on the 19th. Decr. last1, and on the first Day of the present Term communicated it to the other Judges.
Such marks of Delicacy and Respect cannot fail of making correspondent Impressions; and it gives me pleasure to assure You that nothing on our parts shall be wanting to cultivate on all occasions that Harmony & mutual Confidence which it is to be wished may always subsist between the fœderal and State courts.
This morning a motion for a writ of Error in Pagan’s Case was made. we called for the Record, and finding that the Facts on which that motion was rested, did not appear in the Record either of the Court of common pleas, or of the sup[reme]. judicial Court, we were unanimously of Opinion that it ought not to be granted. I have the Honor to be with great Respect & Esteem Sir your most obedt. & h’ble Servt.
John Jay
