Sir

I have just Rec’d your Letter of this Day’s Date, & have forwarded on the Dispatches you inclos’d.

The Resolution inclos’d has this moment pass’d Congress respecting Major General Sullivan, to which I must beg leave to Refer you.1

I Transmit you a Letter I have just Rec’d for you, and also Coppies of several Letters Rec’d this day from General Gates.2 I am with much respect, Sir Your most Obedt sert

1. The enclosed resolution of this date directs “that general Sullivan be recalled from the army until the enquiry heretofore ordered into his conduct shall be duly made” (DLC:GW; see also JCC description begins Worthington Chauncey Ford et al., eds. Journals of the Continental Congress, 1774-1789. 34 vols. Washington, D.C., 1904–37. description ends , 8:742). For other resolutions relating to the inquiry into Sullivan’s conduct, see ibid., 8:700, 727, 749–50; 9:808, 822–23.

2. The letter for GW that Hancock forwarded with this letter has not been identified. Hancock apparently enclosed copies of Gates’s letters to him of 3 and 10 Sept. and their enclosures (see ibid., 8:741).
