[Philadelphia, June 2, 1787. The dealer’s catalogue description of this letter reads: “… autograph postscript in which … [Hamilton] suggests that if his correspondent breaks his journey at Elizabethtown he should go to the house either of Mr. Bondinot2 or Governor Livingstone.”3 Letter not found.]

3. William Livingston, a lawyer and a native of New York State, was head of the liberal faction in state politics from 1758 1770, when he was defeated by the conservative De Lancey faction. In 1772 he retired temporarily from public life and moved to a farm in New Jersey. He was a delegate from New Jersey to the First and Second Continental Congresses and served as governor from 1776 until his death in 1790.
