New York, October 10, 1789. Asks Fitzgerald1 for information concerning foreign and domestic commerce.

LS, United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, Connecticut. The letter is a duplicate of that sent to William Bingham on the same date.

1. Fitzgerald was an Irish-born Virginia planter who had been one of George Washington’s aides-de-camp.
