Dr. Sir

Not having had the pleasure of hearing from you in answer to my letter of the 18th. of Augt. I now send you a duplicate.

I wish at least to be able to let Morris know what prospect I have of fulfilling his views and I therefore shall be indebted to you to let me hear from you on the subject by the first opportunity.

1A draft of this letter appears at the end of the letter H wrote to Benson on August 18. The envelope of the receiver’s copy is addressed “Robert Benson, Esquire clerk of the Senate, Poughkeepsie,” and is endorsed by Benson: “Colo. Hamiltons Letter abt. Returns of specific Supplies &c &c &c &c.” A copy of the letter is also in the Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress.
