Not having had the pleasure of hearing from you in answer to my letter of the 18th. of Augt. I now send you a duplicate.
I wish at least to be able to let Morris know what prospect I have of fulfilling his views and I therefore shall be indebted to you to let me hear from you on the subject by the first opportunity.

1. A draft of this letter appears at the end of the letter H wrote to Benson on August 18. The envelope of the receiver’s copy is addressed “Robert Benson, Esquire clerk of the Senate, Poughkeepsie,” and is endorsed by Benson: “Colo. Hamiltons Letter abt. Returns of specific Supplies &c &c &c &c.” A copy of the letter is also in the Hamilton Papers, Library of Congress.
