2. John Lowell, Jr., a Federalist lawyer from Newburyport, represented Boston in the Massachusetts General Court from 1798 to 1800.

3. John Lowell, a Federalist lawyer in Newburyport who moved to Boston, was a member of the Continental Congress in 1782, 1783, and 1784, a member of the commission to settle the boundary dispute between Massachusetts and New York in 1784, United States judge for the District of Massachusetts from 1789 to 1801, and chief judge of the First Circuit under the Judiciary Act of 1801 from 1801 until his death on May 6, 1802.
