Jay l’honneur de vous Remetre cy Joint une Lettre qui m’a eté fort Recommandée pour Vous, quoiqu’a l’adresse de mon frere;6 elle m’a eté Remise ce matin; J’y en ajoute une autre que Jay Receu d’un Américain avec deux Paquets qui ne sont pas prêssés & qu’il ma dit de Vous envoyer par occasion;7 J’espêre d’en etre le Porteur. Je Vous ai envoyé par Rouën, une boete du meilleur Kinkina8 choisy, qui soit entré à Amsterdam dépuis 100 ans, Je souhaite que Vous n’en ayés pas besoin; ou qu’il serve à conserver Votre Santé aussi longtemps que mes Voeux le désirent.
Capn. Jones fait icy la plus grande Sensation, il ne m’a point fait lhonneur de me Venir Voir, M De Neufville s’en est emparé & le montre, comme une curiosité.

7. Gabriel Manigault of S.C. carried two paper parcels containing sections of Vaughan’s edition of BF’s writings for Grand to forward to BF: Digges to BF, Sept. 20, above, and Oct. 30, below, and Nov. 15 (APS).
8. The quinine was forwarded to BF on Oct. 15 by Trusson, receiver general for tobacco at Rouen (Almanach royal for 1779, p. 481 bis). He sent a case of twelve packets which had come to him from Horneca, Fizeaux & Cie. (in which Grand was a partner: XXVIII, 271n, 594) and for which he reimbursed them 2 l.t. 12 s. APS. BF’s accounts record on Oct. 17 a payment of 3 l.t. 12 s. for transporting the bark from Rouen to Paris and 1 l.t. 16 s. for the porter who brought it from the Grand Cerf: Account XXIII (XXIX, 3).
BF thanked Trusson on Oct. 19, saying that he had received his letter and, separately, the “Box of Bark.” Library of Congress.
