Having received Notice from Mr Clement Biddle notary Public,2 that four Bills of Exchange on Mr Delaforest3 particularised at foot were unpaid and delivr’d to him for Protest from Bank of the United States I have apply’d to Mr Genet who has refered me to You for payment. As I have been told that you Could not pay those bills before the 3d of September next4 I beg as a particular favour that You Will accept them to be paid at any period which you will think Reasonable.

1. Girard was a Philadelphia merchant and financier with extensive interests in the West India trade.
2. Biddle, who had served as commissary general of forage for the Continental Army and as quartermaster general of the Pennsylvania militia during the American Revolution, was a Philadelphia broker and merchant, as well as marshal of the District of Pennsylvania.
