TJ added the numerals to the list above as he prepared to transmit the names to the Senate (TJ to the Senate, 24 Feb.).
According to SJL, on 6 Feb. Rhode Island senator Christopher Ellery wrote TJ recommending “Collins to be Collector v. Russel” at the district of bristol, but the letter has not been found. See Gallatin to TJ, 6 Jan. 1804.

Philadelphia merchant Chandler Price wrote Alexander J. Dallas on 14 Oct. 1803 praising his former partner Benjamin morgan, who had moved to New Orleans in 1800 and was suitable for an office (, 8:894).
