Sunday 27th Novr. 1803.

Dr. Eustis will with great pleasure take charge of the five dollars enclosed by the President for Mr Lillie Editor of the Telegraph.

Under this date, TJ recorded a payment of $4.50 to Eustis for John S. lillie “for one year” (MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767-1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:1112). Lillie sent TJ a receipt, dated 14 Dec., for the money received “by the hand of Jacob Eustis,” William Eustis’s brother, being “payment in full for the Constitutional Telegraphe” for a year and a half, but stipulating from 1 Oct. 1800 to 1 Apr. 1801 (MS in MHi, in Lillie’s hand and signed by him; Vol. 39:368n).
