From a prominent Albemarle County family, Chiles Terrell married Margaret Douglas Meriwether, widow of Nicholas Meriwether, and settled on part of the Meriwether grant, about 10 miles northeast of Monticello. There he established an estate that came to be known as Music Hall (Edward C. Mead, Historic Homes of the South-West Mountains Virginia [Philadelphia, 1899], 153–4; Woods, Albemarle description begins Edgar Woods, Albemarle County in Virginia, Charlottesville, 1901 description ends , 326; MB description begins James A. Bear, Jr., and Lucia C. Stanton, eds., Jefferson’s Memorandum Books: Accounts, with Legal Records and Miscellany, 1767–1826, Princeton, 1997, The Papers of Thomas Jefferson, Second Series description ends , 2:972).

For Dinsmore’s management of the nailery, see Vol. 34:407.
