The inclosed letter must plead my apology for troubling you—I know Mr. Fitzpatrick to be a good, and prudent Man, who may be made useful in a Young Country—He is possessed of good property—

TJ received two additional letters on 3 June from South Carolina recommending Thomas fitzpatrick for office, one from Thomas Sumter, Sr., dated April from Stateburg, and another from Wade Hampton, dated 13 May from Charleston. TJ recorded both entries in SJL with the notation “Fitzpatrick to office,” but neither has been found. In November 1804, Fitzpatrick received an appointment as register for the land office in Adams County, Mississippi Territory (, 1:472).
