To Thomas Jefferson from Aaron Burr, 24 May 1798

From Aaron Burr

24 May 98

Have the goodness to inform me how long you will remain in Phila. if till the close of the Session, I hope to come & pass an hour with you. No freedom of communication, by letter, can be indulged consistently with any degree of discretion

Be assured of my very great attachment & esteem

A. Burr

RC (DLC); endorsed by TJ: “Burr Aaron. recieved in his lre of May 24.98. forwarded to Dr Currie,” which along with TJ’s reply to Burr of 26 May implies that a letter from Burr that is recorded in SJL as having been received from New York on 25 May was not the above note but a longer letter enclosing it, now missing, that TJ sent on to James Currie.
