Enclosure was probably Marmaduke Williams to JM, 6 Jan. 1810 (ibid.; 1 p.), seeking an appointment to a judicial position in the Mississippi Territory. JM also received letters written on 2 and 3 Mar. from three other members of the North Carolina congressional delegation, Jesse Franklin, James Holland, and Nathaniel Macon, advocating the claims of either Marmaduke Williams or his cousin John Williams for the Mississippi judgeship (ibid.).
