Mount Vernon 18. Septr 1793.

Sir,

Your favor of the 14 instant, enclosing an Address from the Citizens of Annapolis, I had the honor to receive in the afternoon of yesterday.1 The answer to it, I give you the trouble, as Chairman of the meeting, to receive under cover of this letter; praying you at the same time to be assured of the very great esteem & regard with which I am &c.

1. GW’s executive journal recorded his reply to the Annapolis address in the entry for Monday, 16 Sept. (JPP description begins Dorothy Twohig, ed. The Journal of the Proceedings of the President, 1793–1797. Charlottesville, Va., 1981. description ends , 239). It is possible that by that date GW had received the copy of the address sent via Henry Hill of Philadelphia and had written the undated reply enclosed below. It is also possible that the letter-book copyist misdated this cover letter, or that GW miswrote at this point.
