Treasury Department, Revenue Office, October 13, 1794. “I have the honor to request that a Wart. may be issued, to Jas. Seagrove Esqr.2 for the balance of Money granted by Congress for the purpose of Fortifying the harbor of St. Mary’s. Mr. Seagrove has already recd. one Thousd. Dolls. as I learn from him.…”3

2James Seagrove was collector of customs at St. Mary’s, Georgia, and inspector of the port at St. Mary’s. He was also Indian agent to the Creeks.

3On June 20, 1794, Warrant No. 3809 for one thousand dollars had been issued to Seagrove. On October 22, 1794, Warrant No. 4181 for $173.84 was issued to him (D, RG 217, Miscellaneous Treasury Accounts, 1790–1894, Account No. 8350, National Archives).
