1. Byers was a resident of Springfield, Massachusetts. For background to this letter, see Coxe to H, October 8, 1794, note 5.

2. On November 1, 1794, Warrant No. 4211 for four hundred dollars was issued to Byers (D, RG 217, Miscellaneous Treasury Accounts, 1790–1894, Account No. 7380, National Archives).
