The Bearer of this, Mr. Benjamin Morris, is the youngest Son of your old Friend Mr. Samuel Morris, lately deceased;8 he visits Europe upon a plan of Business; I believe him to be a deserving young Man; as such, and from the regard I have for his Family Connections here, I beg leave to introduce him to your Friendship & Civilities,—I am ever Dear Sir Your affectionate Son

8. Samuel Morris (II, 376n) died on March 31, 1782, and was interred in Quaker’s Burial Ground on Arch Street: Robert C. Moon, The Morris Family of Philadelphia … (3 vols., Philadelphia, 1898), I, 260. Benjamin (1760–1841) was in France by the following February, but was soon urged by his brother to return to the Charleston merchant house of Thomas Morris & Co. He would later serve in the Pa. legislature, own an iron mine and works, and sit as an associate judge of Berks County, Pa.: ibid., II, 441, 452–4.
