Sir,

I have the honor to inform you that the fourth Edition of Nature Displayed1 is just published: the Cause of the delay of the publication, until this period, is the long absence of Mr. Dufief from the U.S. I forward you, by this day’s Mail, the first Volume, & Shall transmit, by the next, the Second of the Copy for Which you paid four Years Since. I am With Consideration & respect Sir, Your very humble Servant

2. John Laval (ca. 1769–1839), an emigré from Saint-Domingue, was a Philadelphia merchant who in 1802 occupied 44 Lombard Street. A longtime friend of Nicholas Gouin Dufief, Laval took over management of the latter’s Universal Book Store in 1817 (Stern, Nicholas Gouin Dufief of Philadelphia, 61–63, 67).
