From John Jay to Peter Augustus Jay, 8 July 1822

To Peter Augustus Jay

Bedford—8 July—1822—

Dear Peter

I have recd. your Letter of the 5th. Inst. with the accounts mentioned in it—1

Mr. Joshua Purdy,2 in a Conversation with me yesterday, respecting the Bill in Chancery against the Executors of Baxter,3 observed that he understood from you, at the late Circuit Court, that an answer had been filed— that it would be necessary for you to confer with the Complainants on the Subject of it— that you would appoint a Time for the Purpose, and would give them Notice of it— But that no such Notice had as yet been received. He further remarked, that one of the Executors had failed; and one or more Executions had been levied on his Property— I mention these Circumstances because if Loss should result from Delays in your Power to obviate, both you and your Clients would regret it—

Nothing new has occurred here— the late Rains & warm Weather have given fresh Verdure to our Pastures, and greatly increased the Growth of Corn &c.— My Love to Mary & the Children I am Dr Peter Your very affte. Father

John Jay

Peter Augustus Jay Esqr.

The Years Interest which Mr. F. DPeyster4 paid to you on the 10th. April last, was due the 9 May 1821. The Bond is dated 9 May 1812— A Years Interest became due on the 9th. May last.
