Sunday morning [8 Oct. 1820]

Alex Garrett sends Mr Jefferson the Govenors letter recieved last night, a copy of my account & report will be ready by tomorrow. Mr Brockenbrough will have his ready by tuesday.

RC (DLC: TJ Papers, 220:39260); with PoC of TJ to James Gibbon, 12 Apr. 1821, on verso; partially dated at foot of text. RC (MHi); address cover only; with PoC of TJ to Bernard Peyton, 11 Apr. 1821, on verso; addressed: “Mr. Jefferson Monticello.” Recorded in SJL as a letter of 8 Oct. 1820 received that day from Charlottesville.

The govenors letter was probably Thomas Mann Randolph to TJ, 5 Oct. 1820 (see TJ to Randolph, 8 Oct. 1820, and note). Garrett’s account & report as bursar and that of University of Virginia proctor Arthur S. brockenbrough, both dated 30 Sept. 1820, are printed above as enclosures to the University of Virginia Board of Visitors Report to Literary Fund President and Directors, 2 Oct. 1820.
