From Alexander Hamilton to George Washington, [28 March 1794]

To George Washington

[Philadelphia, March 28, 1794]

The Secretary of the Treasury presents his respects to the President of the U. States and encloses herewith the draft of a passport for Capt. Montgomery,1 to which (if found right) the President’s signature is requested, in order that the vessel may be dispatched.2

1James Montgomery was master of the General Greene, the revenue cutter for Pennsylvania.

2On March 28, 1794, Washington granted a passport “to the revenue Cutter Genl Green to pass to Charleston with notification of the embargo” (JPP description begins “Journal of the Proceedings of the President,” George Washington Papers, Library of Congress. description ends , 282).
