L’Avoisier,9 c’est un jeune Americain très honête qui est venu à Paris avec le dessein de se perfectionner dans la connoissance théorique et pratique de la medecine et de la Chirurgie: permettez moi de le recommander à vos bons offices et Conseils, et je vous serai très obligé des bontés que vous voudrez bien avoir pour lui.

M. Macquer
8. Macquer (1718–1784), the author of several works on chemistry, was interested in the applications of chemistry to medicine. He was a docteurrégent of the Faculté de médecine and lectured in chemistry at the Jardin du Roi. As consultant to the government’s Bureau de commerce, which controlled French trade and industry, he was involved in the investigation of problems concerning saltpetre and the dyeing and ceramic industries. He was a member of the Société royale de médecine, the Académie royale des sciences, and, among other foreign societies, the APS: Dictionary of Scientific Biography; Larousse; Quérard, France littéraire; Almanach royal for 1780, pp. 455, 481, 501.
