§ From John Stricker and Others. 3 August 1815, Baltimore. “We the Undersigned Merchants of the City of Baltimore from our long acquaintance with, and personal knowledge of, John G. Johnston do hereby recommend him to the Executive as a Suitable person to be appointed as Consul for the United States to the Island of St. Domingo.”
