Le Havre, 10 Jan. 1788. Has had no letter from TJ since his two former letters; informs TJ that Captain Thomas has received permission from the Controller General to unload his cargo at Le Havre; that Captain Jenkins will sail the next day; encloses a copy of a letter just received and asks TJ’s advice on the scheme proposed therein.

RC (MHi); 2 p.; endorsed, in part: “relative to Capt. Thomas’s aff.” Enclosure (MHi): Copy of a letter from Quesnay de Beaurepaire, dated “Paris le 7 Janvier 1787” [i.e., 1788], expressing his desire to charter “un batiment de 500 Tonneaux portant, ou etant susceptible de monter 12 Canons de 6. et de 12 pour faire voile vers le mois de may, pour la riviere de James en Virginie, afin d’y transporter toutes les choses necessaires a cet etablissement, et beaucoup d’autres marchandises appartenant a divers negocians de Paris; ainsi que quinze a vingt passagers”; and asking whether Limozin or some other merchant of Le Havre would be able to procure a vessel and, if so, what it would cost to charter her.
